The Third High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development" 2018 – 2028, will be held on 10-13 June 2024, will be a platform for consolidating the achievements from the UN 2023 Water Conference, the COP28 Water Agenda and other global events to keep water at the heart of climate action.
On the sidelines of the Conference, on 11 June 2024, the Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Stockholm International Water Institute will hold a side event dedicated to promoting water issues within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29) entitled “Building Momentum – From COP 28 to COP 29: Advancing Water Results for Climate Action.”
The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of the global community about the importance of integrating water issues into the global climate agenda and to discuss solutions to close the financing gap for water and climate adaptation. The efforts made and results achieved in recent years, including under COP 28 and the UN 2023 Water Conference’s Water Action Agenda, as well as the water priorities of the COP 29 Presidency will be highlighted. In addition, a side event will provide a platform for bringing together the voices of the water community and exchanging views to further strengthen the position of water in the official negotiations and COP outcome documents.
The event also aims to develop solutions and recommendations that contribute to achieving the goals and objectives of the Climate Agenda and the Water Action Agenda, including strengthening the COP 29 water agenda, building on the successes of COP 28 and the UN 2023 Water Conference. It will also provide an opportunity to strengthen relationships between negotiators and other stakeholders, contributing to the implementation and financing of the water and climate commitments contained in these two Agendas.
