Water community’s submission to the UNFCCC UAE Belem Work Programm
After many consultations and efforts to consolidate input, the water community's official submission to the UNFCCC UAE Belem Work Programme is now posted on the UNFCCC portal.
At COP28 - through the Global Stocktake and the Global Goal on Adaptation (GAA), environmental and civil society organizations demanded with unprecedented strength that decision-making parties deliver an adaptation implementation agenda.
The Sharm El-Sheikh Adaptation Agenda (SAA) Implementation Report 2023 comes as a result of the international demand.
The report is based on research and assessments from the SAA Task force co-leads, the Marrakech Partnership, and partner organizations like the Stockholm International Water Institute, who led the segment for water.
It highlights opportunities for accelerated planning, finance and implementation as well as integration across systems and levels.
With the world still off track to meet its 2030 Water and Nature outcomes, the chapter on Water and Nature picks up on the need to value cross-cutting systems, standards, integrated planning and multilevel governance for better policy making.
The chapter further details the gap in funding for water related projects and the need for data and information for science-based decision making.
